redcare is a service provided by BT which can
increase the security level that a standard monitored alarm system provides.
There are 3 types of redcare:
• Classic
• GSM
• Home
redcare Classic
is a special service provided by British Telecom (BT) in conjunction with the
Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). BT modify the client’s telephone
line at the telephone exchange enabling the ARC to monitor it 24-hours a day.
If the line is cut or goes down for any reason the ARC will contact the Keyholders.
redcare GSM
consists of two signalling paths. The first path is exactly the same as redcare Classic. However, if the telephone line goes down, the GSM part of the unit
will operate, like a mobile phone, and signal any subsequent activations to
the ARC via the O2 cellular network.
If both telephone line and GSM path are disconnected, the ARC will take that
as a Confirmed Alarm, and the Police will be called (assuming a valid URN is
in effect). If one of the signalling paths is cut and the intruder alarm activates,
that too is taken as a Confirmed Alarm.
redcare GSM is the most
secure method of signalling available. It is also often a requirement in order
to obtain certain types of insurance.
redcare Home
is a new service aimed at the domestic market for clients that require dual
path signalling. It is not as secure as redcare GSM – but
is a step up from a regular monitored alarm system.
